Overview

A number of agricultural initiatives are being taken to identify all the available land for agricultural purposes in the entire Sekhukhune District.

Currently, a distressed Citrus farm has been identified for the Rietfontein Homeless People Trust, and is being prepared for rejuvenation by Sekhukhune Development Agency.

Small-scale Mining Development

Overview

The Sekhukhune District especially the Tubatse area is known for its enormous minerals deposits. Most of the mining activities and operations are of large scale. The small-scale mining development project is aimed at attracting and involving poor communities in the mining sector by engaging in small scale mining operations.

There is currently an ongoing feasibility study to identify all possible small scale mining opportunities in the District. Sekhukhune Development Agency has also commissioned a study through the South African Council for GeoScience to study on the geo-mineral report of the District and highlight available opportunities for both small and large scale mining. The expectation is that both studies should be able to identify all available new mining opportunities within Sekhukhune District.

Rubber Tyre Recycling and Processing Plant

Overview

Due to mining activities and the growing economy of Sekhukhune District, there is a growing quantity of waste tyre. Sekhukhune Development Agency has identified an opportunity to recycle and process waste or old tyres, so as both an environmental cleaning and job creation project.

A feasibility study is at an advanced stage for this project. It is envisaged that this project will indeed both strengthen manufacturing potential of Sekhukhune District and create jobs.

Overview

The tourism industry in the Sekhukhune District has grown steadily over the past few years, with a recent upsurge. The need to promote and establish bankable tourism activities in the District is now more important than ever. Sekhukhune Development Agency has been mandated by the parent body, Sekhukhune District Municipality to facilitate large scale economic growth in the tourism sector.

Sekhukhune Development Agency thus undertook a study to investigate the possibility of the development of high class tourism facilities and tourism route development.

Feasibility studies are at an advanced stage for the following projects. It is envisaged that these projects will indeed unleash tourism potential for each of the designated areas and sites.

Tjate Heritage Site Development

Development and promotion of tourism facility to support and sustain the King Sekhukhune I heritage site.

 

2.

Potlake Game Reserve Development

Development of tourism facility to attract and sustain the reserve.

 

3.

De Hoop Dam Tourism Development

This is an anchor tourism project for Sekhukhune District. The dam is still at its construction stage. The project will be used as the main tourism project with the development of multi-faceted tourism activities to attract a diverse number of tourists.

 

4.

Schuinsdraai Tourism Centre Development
